Melanie Cohn is a clinician-investigator at the Krembil Brain Institute at Toronto Western Hospital. In her clinical role, she conducts neuropsychological assessments to diagnose cognitive deficits in various neurological populations and to determine the cognitive risk of neurosurgical treatments such as deep brain stimulation (DBS). On the research side, she investigates episodic memory and social cognition dysfunction, and their brain substrates. She uses behavioural paradigms as well as structural and functional neuroimaging techniques in healthy young and older individuals, and people with neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. She is also a collaborator on multidisciplinary clinical research studies involving neuroimaging diagnostic tools and neurosurgical interventions. A key aspect of her work is the translation of principles learned from experimental cognitive neuroscience to enhance the practice of clinical neuropsychology.
