Biography

Dr. Christian Hendershot is a Senior Scientist in the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute and the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at CAMH. He is also Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, the Graduate Department of Psychology and the Graduate Department of Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hendershot completed his PhD and clinical residency in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. He is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and serves as Head of Psychology in the Addictions Division at CAMH. Dr. Hendershot is a recipient of the Peter Lougheed/CIHR New Investigator Salary Award, and holds a Canada Research Chair in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Hendershot’s research focuses on the etiology and treatment of addictive behaviours, with a primary emphasis on alcohol use disorders. Specific areas of interest include cognitive, personality and genetic risk factors in the development of alcohol use disorders, the application of human laboratory models to characterize addiction liability and treatment efficacy, behavioural pharmacology of alcohol, and brief interventions for addictive behaviours.

Dr. Hendershot is eligible to supervise graduate students through the Graduate Department of Psychological Clinical Science and the Graduate Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. He also serves as a Research Supervisor for the CAMH Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship.
