We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
The scientific study of psychology has a long history at the University of Toronto, with James Mark Baldwin creating a laboratory of experimental psychology in 1889. Today, the Department of Psychology offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree to the over 1000 undergraduate students enroled in our program.
Our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and the larger concerns of society has allowed us to assume a leadership role in the field. We are a community of award-winning scholars, students, and staff, working jointly to advance the understanding of the mind, brain and behaviour relationship across all levels of analysis, from rodent models of the pathophysiology of anxiety, to new insights on stigma and prejudice, to computational models of object learning. Please read our faculty members’ profiles to learn more about their innovative approaches to advance knowledge.
Our program offers students many opportunities to get involved with our cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research. We are also continuously updating our curriculum to address new challenges (e.g., Neuroethics) or provide new perspectives on longstanding issues (e.g., Intergroup Relations). Our graduates go on to have successful careers in government, education, academia, and the private sector. Here, in the heart of Canada’s most diverse city, Psychology comes alive with dynamic educators and world-class scientists.
