Gillian Einstein is a faculty member in the Departments of Psychology and Public Health Sciences, Senior Scientist at Women's College Research Institute, Mentor for the Health Care Technology and Place program, and a member of both the Institute for Human Development, Life Course, Aging and Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. She is also Director of the new Collaborative Program in Women's Health at the University of Toronto and Treasurer of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology, Duke University where she founded and directed the first year program, Exploring the Mind and was the recipient of the Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Award. She has also been a Scientific Review Officer at the National Institutes of Health, and the Associate Director of the Centre for Research in Women's Health at the University of Toronto. In 2010 she was a visiting Professor at Harvard University in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is currently on the institute advisory board for the Institute of Gender and Health, Canada Institutes of Health Research.

Her book, Sex and the Brain: A Reader (MIT Press), is a compilation of classic papers in the field of Hormones and Behavior with critical introductions to each chapter. She is currently working on another book, Alzheimer's Disease: What It Tells Us about Our Selves.
